The bride of a couple-video that has been making rounds on social media has finally come out to explain why she decided to marry a man over 70 years older than her.
Akua Asabea, aged 35, says her decision to tie the knot with Akwasi Gyan, popularly referred to as Agyaba, 106, comes on the back of an unpleasant experience from a past relationship.
She narrated the story of how a younger partner had denied her after he impregnated her in 2006 and failed to accept responsibility.
According to her, the experience taught her that there are consequences to dating a younger person.
Speaking on Adom TV’s Morning Show, 'Badwam' show, Mrs Asabea explained that she met Agyaba when she moved to live with and take care of her sick sister.
According to her, her love for the 97-year-old man grew when he helped her sister heal and willingly accepted to cater for her son.
“I fell in love with Agyaba because of how he took care of me and my child. Initially, it wasn’t even about marriage, but subsequently, he made his intentions known to me. I told him to see my parents for the necessary customary rights to be performed” she said.
The two, she noted, have been together the past 14 years as residents of Agya Adu Krom, a cottage located within Obuasi in Ashanti and Dunkwa-on-Offin in the Central Region area, and have four biological children in addition to her son from the previous relationship.
They recently formalised their relationship with a marriage ceremony of which photos and videos have generated mixed reactions from the public and social media users.
Akua Asabea is the third wife of Opanyin Akwasi Gyan.
