Chairman of the Risk Communication and Social Mobilisation Committee for Ghana's Covid-19 Response team, Dr Dacosta Aboagye says one Senior High School student has been diagnosed with Coronavirus.
Dr Aboagye stated that the student of the school (name withheld for security reasons) is currently receiving treatment and the situation is also being effectively managed by the authorities. The parents of the child have also been made aware of the situation.
“The parents have been informed and the person is currently having a little symptoms and is under treatment. The parents have been informed, and all those that need to be informed,” he said.
He mentioned that the student is likely to have contracted the virus from home but only started experiencing symptoms at school.
He assured parents and all concerned that their wards are safe, as no other positive cases have been reported in other schools.
“But for many other schools we’ve not had any, compared to the very first time the schools were opened, here it’s been quite safe and nothing has happened apart from this one,” Dr. Aboagye said.
According to the Chairman, schools across the country are being monitored for any other cases.
“Our Regional Director, our District Director will continue to do their monitoring and then we’ll keep on updating because so far we’ve not had any significant update anywhere,’ he said.
