Minority Leader in Parliament Haruna Iddrisu says the awarding of GH¢10.3 million to Enterprise Life Insurance as a package for frontline health workers constitutes a conflict of interest on the part of government.
According to Mr Haruna Iddrisu, Ghanaians need to be told the criteria used in selecting and awarding the deal to Enterprise Life Insurance.
"On March 28, the Minister for Health at the time government was not certain about health workers had announced a package for frontline health workers that they would be insured and paid GH¢10.3 million to Enterprise Life.
"You will be interested in knowing who owns Enterprise Life and who is profiting from an award of insurance in the name of Covid-19," he said.
Mr Haruna Iddrisu stated that the alleged abuse of power and conflict of interest is a major concern, especially during a global crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Minority Leader urged the government to ensure transparency and accountability in the allocation and utilisation of resources.
"We are demanding more transparency and accountability in the use of Covid-19 resources. It is not enough to say we spent this amount. We demand better particulars," he added.
