Some commuters have expressed their displeasure about the deteriorating nature of portions along the Accra-Tema motorway.
The situation, according to them, is even worse at the area close to the Ashaiman underpass which has seen constant erosion posing a threat to their lives.
Motorists say the damaged highway which started as a small hole is gradually expanding to the main road. They fear people will die if the affected section of the road collapses.
“The slack that is supporting the bridge is off the erosion is chopping into the middle of the road, and no one is paying attention to it.
“We don’t want any disaster to happen before they come with excavators to save lives,” a motorist plies the road frequently told JoyNews.
He is among many others who are calling on authorities to fix the problem before it gets out of hand.
The residents say the situation is worsed whenever there is a downpour, for which reason they want the stretch prioritised by the Highways Ministry.
According to a motorist, Denis Abani lamented; “it is not safe for me as a driver to use the outer lane, I end up using the inner lane because of the situation and that is dangerous, the authorities must immediately attend to this situation to avoid loss.”
Pedestrians are also unable to use the outer lane as a result of the situation
However, the Ghana Highway Authority says it will comment after the assessment of the situation.
