Ghana Football Association (GFA) General Secretary, Prosper Harrison Addo has said that it is not compulsory for the Premier League to have a headline sponsor.
According to Harrison Addo, a headline sponsor for the league is not imperative provided there are other category sponsors.
The GFA under the leadership of President Kurt Okraku came to office with high expectations from football enthusiasts with regards to the attainment of a headline sponsor but those expectations are now beginning to extinguish.
The league has been without a title sponsor since the abrogation of the First Capital Plus agreement five years ago. In 2013, First Capital Plus Bank reached an agreement with GFA to invest $10 million in the league over a five-year period.
Speaking Joy Sports in an exclusive interview, Harrison Addo said: "Headline sponsor is not compulsory. If we get it fine, if we don't get it and we can get a lot of category sponsorship, that would do for us.
Despite the belief of the FA that category sponsors would be enough, Addo added they are not relenting on their quest to secure a lead sponsor.
"We strive to get sponsorship across all the various categories, naming right sponsor, headline sponsor etc. Any sponsor is welcome and there are various engagements going on."
He added the GFA is engaging with companies and will announce a headline sponsor as and when the deal is penned.
Currently, the league has five category sponsors. Macron Ghana, InterCity STC, Melcom Ghana, StarTimes and NASCO.
