The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) says the biggest respect the party can pay its founder and former President Jerry John Rawlings is to win Election 2020.
According to Johnson Asiedu Nketia, that is the only way the party can live out the values the statesman stood for.
He made this comment during the vigil organised by the NDC to mourn the passing of former Head of State on Sunday, November 15.
For Mr Nketia, the good principles the late president stood for cannot be implemented as a party in opposition, for that matter, it is imperative that the NDC wins the upcoming elections in order to continue the legacy Rawlings left behind.
"If you are in opposition you may have the best of idea but you cannot implement them. You can only be reciting them," he stated.
He urged members and sympathisers not to feel discouraged but rather to channel their energies towards turning the party's fortunes around in the upcoming polls.
"Be fired up by the demise of our founder to win this election and rescue this nation Ghana which was dear to his heart from the very ills he has fought for, fought against all his life," he admonished.
Also speaking at the event, Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Ofosu Ampofo also reiterated the call for the NDC to win the upcoming election to honour the memory of the late former president.
He called on Ghanaians to join the NDC on what he described as a rescue mission.
The founder of the NDC party died on Thursday, November 12 at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital after a short illness.
