The World Bank Country Director for Ghana, Pierre Frank Laporte says government will receive an amount of $260 million as part of a second package to help the country combat the Covid-19 pandemic.
According to him, $130 million out of the total amount will be accumulated from the International Development Association (IDA) while other financial Institutions will help in mobilizing the rest of the amount.
The said amount of money is a Covid-19 response package every developing country earns to support their economy based on population size and Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
“For Ghana, we were able to mobilise specifically for Covid-19, $240 million and in the next 6 months an additional $20 Million for vaccines.
“Keep testing and we will bring more resources to the table, use those to put up a facility. Don’t think because Covid has decline you will stop, " he said.
According to him, the biggest fear of the World Bank is that the government and its people will adopt a complacent attitude towards Covid-19 and downplay the pandemic as a "few hundred cases."
Mr. Laporte said Ghana is a country that has prioritised Covid-19 testing among others making it have a positive outlook around the globe.
Speaking to JoyNews' George Wiafe on PM Express, the Country Director said the country can win the fight against the virus when government continues to study what it has done differently since the outbreak of the pandemic.
“Government should look back at the few months, what are the lessons learned?"
He encouraged Ghanaians to reflect on the things that have made it a good example and to follow that process to speed up Ghana’s economic recovery.
