Minister-designate for Tourism, Arts and Culture has stated that Ghana will become the hub of movie production in Africa under his watch as Tourism Minister.
Mr Awal Mohammed said this target will be achieved through various initiatives including the establishment of a 20-million-dollar film studio which will "increase the tourism potential of this country."
“We want to build a film and music studio. It’s one element that can increase the tourism potential of this country," he told the Appointments Committee of Parliament, Thursday.
During his vetting, Mr Awal indicated that the move has become necessary since the country lacks proper film and music studios.
"We don’t have any serious studio in this country, so this is one of the first things that we will do. The film studio will help in music and film production and make Ghana the hub of film production in West Africa,” he said.
This comes on the back of a pledge by government to build recording studios for the creative arts industry.
Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, during the NPP's 2020 manifesto in the Central region, mentioned that the studios would be constructed in Accra, Kumasi, Accra, Tamale, and Takoradi.
Addressing the Appointments Committee, Mr Awal said government has not given up on this as plans are underway towards achieving this goal.
