The Director-General of the World Health Organisation (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has commended Ghana’s President, Nana Akufo-Addo for being exemplary to all citizens in the fight against Covid-19.
“I salute the example set by the President Nana Akufo-Addo in receiving the first Coivd-19 vaccination through the COVAX Facility,” he stated.

Mr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus’ comment comes after President Akufo-Addo on Monday morning received the first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine at the 37 military Hospital.

Prior to this, some Ghanaians have raised several concerns about Ghana being the first nation to receive 600,000 doses of AstraZeneca Vaccines through the COVAX Facility.
Taking to social media, Adhanom Ghebreyesus indicated that the action taken by the president is key to promoting confidence in the vaccine or what he terms as a “life-saving tool” in Ghana and across Africa.

Meanwhile, according to some members of the public, the actions of the President together with his Vice, Dr Buwumia allay fears that the vaccine is not safe for human use.

Also, both the First and Second Lady; Rebecca Akufo-Addo and Samira Bawumia got vaccinated today.

The Covid-19 Vaccines Global Access, also known as COVAX, is a global initiative aimed at equitable access to Covid-19 vaccines led by Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI), the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI).
