The Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) has indicated it recorded over 52 per cent reduction in maternal mortality in 2020.
Cases fell from 111 deaths in 2019 to 53 in 2020.
Speaking at the 2020 end of the year performance review of the hospital in Kumasi, the Chief Executive Officer of the Hospital, Dr Oheneba Owusu-Danso attributed the development to the operationalisation of the new Mother and Baby Unit.
“Apart from the improved clinical care, two major contributing factors to this welcoming news could be the continues benefits of the hospital in driving from the new mother-baby unite which was constructed and commissioned by the First Lady through the Rebecca Foundation.”
He also enumerated another factor to be the enhanced at ambulance service at the facility.
“And also the enhanced operational capacity of the National Ambulance Service which has ensured more prompt and improved quality in the state referred patience are received in the hospital.”
