The Executive Secretary of the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers-Ghana (COPEC), Duncan Amoah, is concerned about the alleged maintenance of the Chief Executive of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) – Hassan Tampuli, despite him being a Member of Parliament for the Gushiegu Constituency.
Duncan Amoah told Charles Ayitey on the Market Place that COPEC has sighted correspondence from Hassan Tampuli to the NPA despite him being an MP.
He argues that it breaches the Corporate Governance Laws of public institutions.
“We have sighted an official correspondent in communication from the National Petroleum Authority signed by Hassan Tampuli who happens to be the CEO that got to Parliament. It was our expectation as a Chamber that he would have made way for the NPA to work fully without it becoming his signature.”
“If you look at the Public Governance conventions and laws, there is a good reason that MPs are not made CEO. We are looking at possibilities of conflict of interest and double salaries. We must ensure that the NPA is given a substantive CEO who has no other appointment. This is a dangerous precedence and we want it rectified now,” he argued.
The former Chief Executive of the NPA annexed the Gushegu parliamentary seat in the Northern Region for the New Patriotic Party in the 2020 parliamentary elections.
He polled a total vote of 30,401 against 28,055 votes by Mohammed Yussif Mamali of the National Democratic Congress.
Hassan Tampuli succeeded NDC’s Kwesi Thomas Nassan who occupied the seat in 2016.
