President Akufo-Addo has indicated that Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) who do not consult chiefs in their decisions may not be re-appointed.
According to him, any District Chief Executives (DCEs) and MMDCEs who refuse to engage the stakeholders should be reported to him and that they are not partaking in good governance.
“Any DCEs who do not engage the Chiefs in any activities of concern in the community is not working well. You are aware I am about to appoint new DCEs, so please let me know those DCEs because good governance involves consulting with the stakeholders on the grounds and making sure their concerns are addressed, “President Akufo-Addo told the Chiefs from Akyem Abuakwa constituency.
This came to light when chiefs from Akyem Abuakwa constituency in the Eastern Region paid a courtesy call on the President at the Jubilee House on Friday.
The Gyasihene and Kwamuhene of Akyem Abuakwa, who addressed the President on behalf of the chiefs, said some DCEs and MCEs do not involve them in developmental projects or decisions concerning the community.
Dasebre Eyimadu Kantamanto added that, the behavior of the MMDCEs sidelining the chiefs does not augur well for the community.
“Some District Chief Executives and MCEs in our communities are not working with us. They do not engage us in any developmental projects most often events and constructions are done without our notice. Mr President we believe we should be involved in such activities because we are also stakeholders in our communities.”
Dasebre Eyimadu Kantamanto also urged the president to make the Nsawam-Apagwa road dual carriage as that can help reduce the carnage on the roads.
The chief also informed the President that all traditional leaders from the area are supporting him in his fight against illegal mining.
“We have always been engaged in galamsey in this country but we never used to destroy the waters. This days the activities of illegal mining ia adversely affecting us and we are not happy about it, so we fully support you in the fight so that we can restore our waters and lands in its natural state. If we do not do this, we will soon be forced to import water and the country will not have any place to mine again, “he said.
In response, President Akufo –Addo assured, their concerns on roads and illegal mining would be addressed.
“You are aware I started in my first term to curtail activities in illegal mining, and government is intensifying those efforts because if we do not do that we would end up with no water bodies to rely on and you can imagine what will happen,” Akufo-Addo said.
