The Member of Parliament for Builsa North, James Agalaga has lamented the hectic processes involved for a Ghanaian to renew his or her passport.
With firsthand experience, Mr Agalga on Friday, stated that the processes to be followed under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration are laborious and time consuming.
According to him, one goes through the same steps as a fresh applicant who is expected to provide all information.
“If you are a person already in possession of a passport and it expires and you are seeking to renew, you have to through the same process and information (bio data) as a fresh applicant. It makes the process unnecessarily laborious. It is time consuming.
“As I sit, my passport has expired and I want one. I have been given a date to appear on June 25. The information I provided the office some time ago when I put in an application, they are asking me to furnish them with the same information,” he stated.
He made this revelation during the vetting process of Deputy Minister-designate for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Kwaku Ampratwum-Sarpong, by the Appointments Committee.
Mr Agalga presented his concerns to Mr Ampratwum-Sarpong and requested for an immediate solution.
In response, the Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration Deputy Minister-designate gave the assurance to see to the matter when given the nod.
“I am not aware or I don't know that when you go for a renewal you have to go through the process as if you are acquiring a new passport.
“When I am giving the nod, I will look into that and see how best I can advise my minister on the best way forward,” Mr Ampratwum-Sarpong said.
