Executive Secretary at the Lands Commission, Alhaji Daud Sulemana Mahama, has confirmed that foreigners with resident permit can acquire land without using a Ghanaian as a guarantor.
According to him, the Land Act, 2020 (Act 1036) makes provision for foreign nationals to acquire properties for themselves without a Ghanaian citizen having to register the property on their behalf.
Alhaji Mahama however explained that, "a foreigner is limited to a maximum of 50 years interest in land. In so far as he is a foreigner, he’s not precluded from acquiring property in Ghana.
"But his interest will be limited to 50 years at any one time, So they can acquire land by the laws of the land. So we cannot stop them," he said.
Alhaji Sulemana Mahama was speaking on the Joy FM's Super Morning Show Thursday. He was hosted by Winston Amoah to discuss details of the Land Act, 2020 (Act 1036).
He said that if Ghanaians are not stopped from acquiring properties in other countries, then foreigners are at liberty to do same in Ghana.
"There are several Ghanaians who live abroad and they have acquired properties, and sometimes even freehold properties in those countries," Alhaji Sulemana Mahama stressed.
