The Savannah Regional Police Command is on a manhunt for four persons suspected to be involved in the kidnapping of a 26-year-old man in the Sawla Tuna Kalba District on Wednesday, July 7.
Reports from JoyNews' correspondent, Isaac Nongya reveal that the masked suspects broke into the home of one Alhaji Iddisah Dari at Sidayiri, a suburb of Sawla and abducted his son, Yahaya Iddisah.
Acting Public Relations Officer, Inspector Adjeikum Owusu, who confirmed the incident on Saturday, July 10, added that the kidnappers are demanding GH₵10,000 as ransom.
In an interview with Isaac Nongya, he said: "a complainant came to the Sawla Police station and reported that four armed masked men raided his house and took away his son to an unknown place.
"They later used the victim's mobile phone to demand an amount of GH₵10,000 as ransom before they release the victim. But Alhaji Iddisah Dari replied saying he does not have such an amount and tried to reach a bargain".
This, he said infuriated the kidnappers, who have since not reached out to the family.
According to Inspector Adjeikum Owusu, father of the victim after speaking with the suspects is of the assertion that the kidnappers are from the Fulani community.
Meanwhile, the Savannah Regional Police Command has given the assurance that the perpetrators will be brought to book.
Also, Inspector Adjeikum Owusu has appealed to the Fulani community in the region to be vigilant and help the Police combat crime by exposing any suspicious characters.
Statistics from the Savannah Regional Police Command brings the number of kidnap cases in the region to seven.
