The newly established Afadzato Football Club has beaten a team of former Black Stars players in an exhibition match at Golokwati in the Volta Region.
The team put together by John Paintsil after a 10-days scouting exercise sunk 5 goals into the goal post kept by Memunatu Sulemana of the Black Queens fame.
The former Black Stars side which featured Godwin Attram, Agyeman Badu, Isaac Vorsah, Joe Hendricks, Dan Quaye, John Paintsil among others equalized 4 goals, pegging the final scores at 5:4 in favor of Afadzato Football Club.
The young stars of the Club won the admiration of the patrons with their skills exhibited in the match which they dominated.
The Member of Parliament for Afadzato South, Angela Alorwu-Tay, who is the sole financier of the Club was enthused by their performance.
She said the team will be registered to compete in division two in the Volta Region, hoping to qualify to Division One and subsequently to the Premier League.
She explained that “out of 720 young men who participated in the gala, 61 were selected to form the Club.”
A former Black Stars player John Paintsil, who was in charge of the scouting exercise, expressed satisfaction at the performance of the newly scouted players, indicating they possess the prowess to be developed into professional footballers.
He detailed that his scouting exercise which took him to 4 districts in the Volta Region exposed him to great football talents.
“I have been to Ketu North, South Tongu, Kpando, and now we are in Afadzato South, my impression today is amazing. I have seen players who are already made that coaches don't need to polish them. I never thought that there are such talented players hidden somewhere [in the region]”, he explained.
He is optimistic his Academy would fish out enough players by the end of 2021, who would be nurtured to become professionals and feature in the national teams in the future.
Mr Paintsil who contributed to Ghana’s first World Cup qualification in 2006, said the scouting initiative is part of his plans to give back to society by unearthing football talents and giving them the needed support to lunch their professional careers.
He entreated stakeholders to support the Football Association in promoting the sporting discipline in Ghana.
