The Zabzugu District in the Northern Region has recorded its first two cases of Covid-19 since the outbreak of the pandemic in Ghana.
The samples from the infected persons were collected for testing last week, but the District Health Directorate received the test results yesterday
The two patients, who are currently at the Tamale treatment center, are said to be responding to treatment.
Thirty contacts have been traced so far whiles nineteen of them have had their samples collected for testing.
The District Director of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Victoria Teni Aboyella who disclosed this at the handing over of an oxygen concentration machine, a refrigerator and some WASH facilities to the Zabzugu hospital and some schools in the area Tuesday, said the district has intensified public education and enforcement of the Covid-19 safety protocols.
She said the wearing of face mask, especially at pubic gatherings is strictly being complied with.
Ms Aboyella added that the residents are concerned about the latest developments, noting that they are adhering to the safety protocols.
The District Health Directorate is appealing for logistics and funds to enhance contact tracing and sensitization in the area.
Ms Aboyella appealed to the residents to continue observing the protocols whiles the Health Directorate works assiduously to prevent the spread of the virus.
