The Spokesperson of the family of the slain activist, Ibrahim Mohammed, has revealed that the National Chief Imam- Osman Nuhu Sharubutu is the biological grandfather to the family.
He disclosed this as an explanation for the family’s recent visit to the Chief Imam.
“The main reason for going to the Chief Imam is that he is the family’s biological grandfather. Even though we are resident in Ejura, he visited, mourned with the family. The message he delivered comforted the youth after the incident”, he stated.
The family of the late social activist, Ibrahim Mohammed, aka Kaaka on Tuesday appealed to the National Chief Imam to add his voice to calls for a speedy trial of the case to bring the perpetrators of the crime to book.
Speaking with Joy Prime’s Daniel Dadzie on Beyond the Headlines on Wednesday, the Spokesperson who doubles as a cousin of Kaaka said, the family thought it wise to appeal to the Chief Imam after efforts to meet the IGP for the release of the Committee’s report proved futile.
“The family thought it is important to pay a courtesy call on the Chief Imam after efforts to meet the IGP for the release of the committee’s report failed”, he added.
Kaaka was killed in Ejura in the Ashanti Region in June 2021. His death, which sparked a protest in the community also led to the killing of two persons by security personnel dispatched to control the crowd.
The Minister of Interior, Ambrose Dery, formed a three-member committee following a directive given him by President Nana Akufo-Addo. The Committee Chaired by Justice George Koomson, was tasked to conduct a public inquiry into the disturbances recorded at Ejura in the Ashanti Region during a protest over the death of Kaaka in which two protesters were allegedly killed by Police and Military personnel.
Although the Committee has submitted the report to the Interior Minister, he is yet to make it public.
According to the Spokesperson, the family wants to be updated with what the Police is doing to bring Justice to the family. Since the plan of meeting the IGP failed, they had to run to their grandfather who they believe can help address their demand.
“It was necessary for the family to visit the Chief Imam to inform him of how the case is going. This is because it is important as a family member, that he is updated," Mr. Nafiu Mohammed explained.
