In the latest edition of Joy Prime Explore, the team visited Princess Town, a small village in the Western Region.
This visit has proved to be enlightening as it has brought to light a traditional Ghanaian leader in history who is not celebrated in this country but is revered in the Caribbean.
John Conny, an Ahanta chief, was a great warrior in the 18th Century; thus, his victory over the Dutch at home brought joy to many Africans who had been transported to the far West of the globe.
The people named their festival after the great Chief, but as the years went by, the name has metamorphosed to John Canoe, and the festivities are observed in January every year.
