The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has cited the 2022 budget as one of the many reasons why Ghanaians should celebrate the Christmas festivity this year.

In a Christmas message published on its website, the governing party noted that next year's budget dubbed "Agyenkwa budget" is one that provides a path for the country towards transforming the economy for the better.

The statement signed by the party's General Secretary, John Boadu noted that Ghana is confronted with several challenges amidst the deadly Covid-19 pandemic. However, the government, led by President Akufo-Addo has demonstrated that it has what it takes to change the misfortunes of citizens.

"The NPP also acknowledges that we are a country challenged by an eagerness for urgent solutions to the problems confronting our people which have been exacerbated by the socio-economic impact of the deadly Covid-19 pandemic.

"The Party however takes consolation in the fact that our government, ably led by President Akufo-Addo, has amply demonstrated the wherewithal to tackling the very challenges confronting the ordinary Ghanaian.

"If for nothing at all, the budget of 2022, which has been, righty so, christened the ‘agyenkwa budget’, provides a clear pathway for the post-Covid-19 socio-economic rebound and transformation of our country, for sustained growth and prosperity. We, therefore, have everything to celebrate in this festive season and beyond," it stated.

Also, the New Patriotic Party used the platform to urge all well-to-do Ghanaians, particularly Christians, to recall the reason for the season, which is Christ Jesus, and show love and offer a helping hand to the needy as the Christian doctrine prescribes.

"Christmas is indeed a season of love and care, especially for the needy in society. These were the virtues that Christ personified.

"In the light of this, the NPP, on the occasion of the commemoration of this great season, humbly calls on all and sundry, particularly people who subscribe to the Christian faith, to show much love and care to the needy in order to give real meaning to the essence of Christmas."

The party prayed that "this Christmas ends the year on a cheerful note and make way for a brighter and more prosperous New Year for our dear country."
