Nigerian musician, Timaya, has dismissed reports he was involved in a hit and run in Ikate, Lagos.
In a press release addressing the claims, he stated that the reports are false and very misleading.
Timaya noted that while driving through traffic, on March 3, a lady had walked up to his car claiming he had scratched and damaged her car.
Timaya stated that the lady had refused to move from the road so they could resolve the issue amicably when he offered.
The artiste noted that she also held on to his side mirror and refused to give him her number or take his details so they could sort out the challenges at a later time.
“As she continued to insist that I make payment for damages immediately, the scene got more dangerous as 4-5 boys started to gather around my car, which made me more concerned and worried as I hadn't even seen the damage done,” Timaya stated.
“I started to doubt the whole scenario, so I drove off to avoid being mobbed and did not notice immediately that the lady had held on to my side mirror as I drove off,” he added.
The artiste stated that he only got information that the lady was injured when he drove off and had been sent to the hospital.
This comes after a social media user claimed the musician had hit the sister and her car but drove off.
Attached to the Instagram post, with the allegations, is the video of the alleged victim in a hospital bed. Her legs were in bandages and her face was bruised.
The victim's sibling, who made the allegations, claimed instead of assuming responsibility and making amends for denting their sister’s car, the artiste rather asked for the victim's number.
They added that, when the victim refused, Timaya hit her and drove off injuring her in the process. The social media user claimed they had reached out to Timaya on Instagram to take responsibility for his action but he blocked them after reading the message.
However, Timaya dismissed the allegations, stating that he has sent his team to the scene immediately he learnt of the news. However, they were unsuccessful in securing the location of the victim.
“My team reached out through various channels and were eventually able to reach her sister directly who gave us the actual location of the hospital she had been admitted into. My team members were there as quickly as possible to meet with her and her family and stayed with them till midnight when she was discharged from the hospital.”
Timaya said he was unable to make it to the hospital in person because he had an engagement in Ogun State which he had left for.
According to him, he sent an emissary to the home of the victim where they conveyed his sincere remorse on the incident to her husband and promised to see him early the next day.
“My emissary pleaded with her husband to give me the chance to elaborately express how sorry I was about how things played out and to take care of things and do the needful in a situation like this.”
“Early this morning around 7 am, we went to the lady's house. When I got to the house, I met with her husband and we got into lengthy pleas and talks. After the meeting with her husband, we were met with police officers outside the compound who invited us to the station and of course, we cooperated and are still co-operating with them."

Timaya noted that he sympathises with the lady and her family and wished the event had unfolded differently.
He stated that under no circumstances would he intentionally wish to cause anyone harm.
“I apologize to my fans and well-wishers who must have perceived this differently and most importantly to the lady, her husband who has been an absolute gentleman through this ordeal and her family who is dealing with the shock. I wish her a speedy recovery. God bless her.”
