Police in the Eastern Region say the five victims of the Abetifi accident are currently receiving treatment and are in stable conditions.
A Hyundai Creta saloon vehicle, with registration number GW 4826-20, crashed into a metal container shop at Abetifi in the Kwahu East District of the Eastern Region.
The accident resulted in the death of a 10-year-old boy and injuring five others.
The injured persons were referred to the Kwahu Government Hospital for further treatment.
According to the Eastern Regional Police PRO, DSP Ebenezer Tetteh, “all the injured persons are doing well; thankfully, they are responding to treatment.”
He added that the driver of the vehicle, Charles Appiah, has been arrested and is currently assisting with investigations.
The driver who was driving from Abetifi towards Pepease, veered off the road and ran into the container shop.
“The Police proceeded to the scene and met the victims who have sustained various degrees of injury, at the shop premises.”
The vehicle had been towed from the crime scene to the Abetifi Police Station, but the “suspect driver is in Police custody to assist in investigation,” DSP Tetteh added.
Meanwhile, 20 persons who sustained injuries in another accident on the Kwahu Atibie-Nkawkaw road are equally responding to treatment.
A VW minibus which was on its way to Nkawkaw from Atibie, upon reaching a section of the road in a sharp curve, fell on its side at the right edge of the road.
The Police went to the Holy Family Hospital’s emergency room, where eight of the passengers – two ladies and six males—including the driver, Kelvin Annor Sarfo, 32, were receiving treatment.
"The minibus was towed from the accident scene to the Police Station, to be tested by a technician from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority," DSP Tetteh said.
