The Lands Minister, Samuel Abu Jinapor, says there are no attempts to conceal the outcome of investigations into the demolition of the Bulgarian Embassy.
He said the report of the Sole Inquirer, which was received on April 26, is currently being studied for necessary actions to be taken.
“There is no cover-up, and every step in this matter, as in all cases, will continue to be above board, transparent and with enormous integrity,” he wrote in a Facebook post on Monday.
His reaction follows claims by North Tongu MP, Samuel Okudzeto, that government is trying to shield the person complicit in the case, which he believes does not augur well for the country’s image.
Mr Ablakwa called for an immediate release of the report, alleging that there “is a grand scheme of apparent official cover-up and a sleazy agenda to shield the President’s appointee at the NDPC.”
“The diplomatic and international community is following this sordid affair most keenly – Ghana cannot afford another damning international verdict after the recent spate of grim global assessments.
“Why is the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government treating the Sole Inquirer’s report into the demolition of the Bulgarian Embassy like a nuclear code?” he asked.
But in a response to this, the Lands Minister said recommendations and issues highlighted in the report will be acted upon in due course.
“This should not be reduced to cheap politics and usual point-scoring,” he stressed.
Background
The Sole Inquirer was inaugurated on Friday, March 18, 2022, to investigate the circumstances surrounding the true ownership of some parcel of land in dispute between the Bulgarian Embassy and a private developer with terms of reference as follows:
- Undertake a full and impartial inquiry into the alleged encroachment and/or demolishing of property on the land being used as the Bulgarian Embassy.
- Make appropriate recommendations relating to the land being used as the Bulgarian Embassy.
- Inquire into the nature of interest in any land held or occupied by Diplomatic Missions in Ghana.
- Inquire into any matter relating to land in which Diplomatic Missions in Ghana have any interest whatsoever.
- Make recommendations to government.
