The Member of Parliament (MP) for North Tongu says the Finance Minister will not be allowed to evade accountability for the government’s expenditure on Covid-19.
Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa said the Minister will be made to account for the expenditure, no matter how long it takes.
In a Twitter post on Thursday, June 16, he insisted that Mr. Ofori-Atta would have rushed to Parliament if it was a loan he needed.
“Anytime Ken Ofori-Atta must account to the Ghanaian people through Parliament, he makes pathetic excuses and runs away.

If it was an opportunity to engage in unconstitutional withdrawals of taxpayer funds, he would have proceeded with unholy alacrity.

“If it was an opportunity to engage in unconstitutional withdrawals of taxpayer funds, he would have proceeded with unholy alacrity.”
The outspoken MP added, “he can run, but he can’t hide”.
Meanwhile, the Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has risen to the defense of the Minister.

He said the Minister is not running away from accountability. According to him, such claims are untrue and should be disregarded.
“Let nobody rush to that conclusion. He is not running away from accountability. What he has communicated to us, and indeed he only asked for additional time.”

Background
On Thursday, the Finance Minister failed to show up in the house to answer some 16 questions about his ministry.
This infuriated the Minority Caucus in Parliament.
The group said the minister has a penchant for disrespecting the house.
Meanwhile, he has been scheduled to answer the question on Wednesday, June 22.
