The Rotary Club of Sunyani has commissioned a 4 unit classroom block with ancillary facilities for the Nsoatre Roman Catholic Kindergarten Schools in the Sunyani West District of the Bono Region.

The additional facilities include furniture for pupils and students, a five-unit water closet toilets, office space for the teachers, a storeroom, a sick bay, and the provision of over 1,000 books to aid teaching and learning.

Teachers have also been trained to equip them in the recent trend of early childhood education and impact good sanitation practices, including hand washing and menstrual hygiene.

The renovated project, funded by the Rotary foundation global grant through the Sunyani East club and its international partners, is at a total cost of USD 63,161.

Speaking at a short ceremony to hand over the facility to the school, the Rotarian President for Sunyani East, Rosemond Anaba, said the easiest way of taking out all forms of inequalities is through education which also empowers individuals to be independent, reduces poverty, and creates wealth for every family.

This, she said, remains a key motivating factor for them to continue supporting education in the various districts.

“I charge all parents of Nsoatre and neighboring communities to take advantage of this facility and enroll their wards in school”, she said and further urged the children to dream on and not allow their current predicament to be a limitation but rather a unique opportunity to make it in life with the rotary intervention.

“Rotary is very serious with the sustainability of its funded project” RP Anaba stressed and therefore appealed to all stakeholders to ensure the project is kept for a much longer time to achieve its intended purpose.

The head teacher of Nsoatre R/C Basic School, Veronica Amponsah, expressing her gratitude to Rotary for the conducive learning facility, said the kindergarten pupils would no longer study under what used to be a dilapidated shed used as classrooms.

“This project will go a long way in helping with training the future leaders of the country as a whole and Nsoatre in particular. We are certain that our admissions are going to increase”, she said.

While assuring Rotary of proper maintenance of the facilities, Madam Amponsah, appealed to well wishes to support them end pupils learning in a dusty classroom and complete their lower primary block which has no concrete floor, or ceiling, and is not plastered nor painted.

The Municipal Education Director, Issah Baffoe, said he is happy because the project will be used by early grade learners whose education should be effortless, and the gesture by Rotary is a sign that together they can help to improve a lot of the people.

He said there are 84 schools in the municipality that need major and minor repairs, and accommodation for teachers in hard-to-reach areas, among others.

He, therefore, appealed to all stakeholders to join hands with the government to provide the needed infrastructure and other resources to deliver quality education.

Nsoatre Traditional leaders, Sunyani West Municipal Chief Executive, Kusi Boadum, and the Catholic Bishop of the Sunyani Diocese, Most Rev. Bishop Matthew Kwasi Gyamfi, were among the dignitaries at the handing-over ceremony.

The project was funded by Rotary Foundation global grant 2127829 with donor support from the Rotary Club of Nanaimo, Nanaimo Daybreak Rotary club, Oceanside Rotary club, Vancouver Island Rotary, Mid-island Group (23 clubs), and the Rotary Club of Sunyani East.
