A Security Analyst, Adam Bonaa, has called for a national dialogue on the increasing spate of insecurity in tertiary institutions.
Speaking in an interview on JoyNews, on Friday, the analyst noted that schools have become a breeding ground for violence.
Hence, there is a need to assess the issue and come up with strategies that will clamp down on this looming threat.
“I think National Security, Interior Ministry, NIB, the Universities and Security Analysts should all come on board to ensure that these things are nipped in the bud or else, it [schools] will become a breeding ground for pure violence.
“These universities have become the breeding ground for violence in terms of the ratio of security personnel to the number of students, it is nothing to write home about,” he said.
Dr. Bonaa’s call comes on the heels of a recent clash among rival groups - Residents of Unity Hall and University Hall - at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
The disturbance on Thursday evening left three vehicles damaged.
About 12 people were also reportedly injured.
The violent incident comes barely two weeks after a similar incident happened at the University of Ghana campus in the Greater Accra Region.
This series of violence, Dr Bonaa fears, threatens the nation’s security and must the curbed.
