Traders at Anomangye market, a suburb of Kumasi in Ashanti Region are protesting the alleged demolition of their market.
The vendors claim that officials of the Suame Municipal Assembly are determined to demolish the market despite not having built any structures to relocate them.

The resentful traders said that Albert Frimpong, an Assembly Member for Anomangye electoral area, told them to pack up everything because the Assembly has planned to demolish the market.

If the allegation is true, the traders describe it as unfair to them because they have not been given enough time to prepare.
One of the market women commented, "We have been here for many years, so to demolish our market will come with many challenges for us and life will be unbearable."

However, the Chief of Anomangye, Nana Kyei Dabanka Boateng, claimed that the community's traditional leaders are unaware of the Assembly's plan to destroy the market.
According to Nana Boateng, they will oppose any attempt by the Assembly to demolish the market without taking the required measures.

Maxwell Ofosu Boakye, the Municipal Chief Executive for Suame, has refuted claims that the Assembly's leaders had agreed to destroy the market's buildings.

According to him, the Assembly decided merely to provide washrooms for the traders and not to completely demolish the market for a new project.
