The Black Galaxies of Ghana have sealed a spot for the 2023 Championship of African Nations (CHAN) tournament in Algeria, following a 5-4 penalty-shootout win against Nigeria at the Moshood Abiola Stadium on Saturday, September 3.
Having commanded a 2-0 win in the reverse leg at the Cape Coast Stadium last Sunday, the Galaxies needed to avoid defeat in the 2nd leg to advance to next year's tournament.
Pressure came upon Ghana after 76 minutes of play as Nigeria opened the scoring to make it 2-1 on aggregate.
Annor Walker's side managed to hold off strongly the attacks of the opposition but conceded late into the added time, taking the encounter into penalties to decide who snatches a slot between the two teams.
The Black Galaxies converted all five of their spot kicks while Nigeria missed one to give Ghana a 5-4 win and eventually secure qualification for the CHAN tournament to be staged in Algeria next year.
Ghana returns to the competition after an eight years absence.
The CHAN tournament will begin in Algeria from January 8 to February 5 2023.
