The Ghana Football Association says it will not allow a few unscrupulous individuals to disrupt the start of the new football season.

General Secretary of the Association, Prosper Harrison Addo, says the FA is focused on ensuring club owners do not invest in vain.

He spoke on Luv FM on issues related to a possible injunction on the start of the 2022/23 Betpawa Ghana Premier League.

The banned CEO of AshantiGold SC, Dr. Kwaku Frimpong, is said to have secured an interlocutory injunction restraining the GFA from commencing the 2022/23 season.

The Obuasi-based club secured the injunction in protest against the decision of the GFA’s Disciplinary Committee to demote Ashgold to the third tier of Ghana football. Some officials of the club were also banned for their involvement in the match-fixing scandal against former premier club Inter Allies.

However, speaking on the Kickoff Show on Luv FM, the FA General Secretary revealed that the Federation has not been served the injunction.

Mr. Prosper Addo believes the sacrifices of club owners must be protected by the FA and not allow some faceless individuals to destroy the gains made so far.

“I’m so annoyed when we allow people like that to disturb the investment of others. What we have put clubs through to invest in their pitches, jersey and everything and then we allow one man or two people out of their own selfish interest and they attempt to spoil the game and then people will look on, I won't look on. 

"We will face this thing. In the coming days you will see. We will face this thing squarely; the rules are there and those people will be out of the game trust me. I'll put my life on it. We will not sit down for a whole industry to shut down because of somebody's selfish interest,” he stated.

The FA General Secretary says the Association should rather be chasing out the unprincipled individuals in the game and not the other way round.

"We should be on their heels, not the other way round. Honestly, I'm so annoyed because some of us are calm and quiet and then we allow those who call the heels of the game to rather be talking, no. This is a game that needs a lot of integrity and we will not joke with it.

Anybody who disturbs the integrity of the game we will drag him to whatever length so I'm sounding a warning. A whole industry cannot be shut down because of one person’s selfish interest. No, and Ghanaians shouldn't accept that," said Prosper Addo.

He further stressed that people should not see football as a joke but rather a serious business.

“If I tell you the number of players on our FIFA connect platform, If I tell you the number of Ghanaian youth who rely on football in this country, nobody will joke with football and indeed nobody should be allowed to joke with football. Imagine if all these youth are not playing football and are on the streets of this country how are we going to cope," he quizzed.

So, "nobody, and I repeat nobody should be allowed to joke with our football,” he said.
