The reigning Volta-Oti Zonal champions have progressed to the elimination stages of the 2022 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) after a close campaign starter.
Bishop Herman College was billed to dominate their opponents SDA SHS Bekwai and Salaga SHS in the Tuesday morning contest but SDA Senior High gave the Volta giants a run for their money.
After falling behind in Round One, the favourites knew they had an uphill task. That trajectory changed after the next two rounds of the contest with the Kpando-based catholic school leading smoothly.
The scare came in Round Four when a substitution they prepared to bury the game backfired—which resulted in SDA Senior High restoring their Round One lead.
However, BIHECO showed fortitude and proved that after all, winning is winning, whether by a mile or by an inch.

In the final lap, they answered three out of the four riddles which go to all three schools simultaneously to inch over SDA Bekwai with two points, securing a 50point win and a spot in the one-eighth stage of the tournament.
BIHECO now hopes to rewrite their fortunes and progress past the first single elimination stage to the money-zone for the first time ever which will also secure them a seeded spot for next year’s competition.
SDA SHS Bekwai will be hopeful to qualify as one of the 18 high scoring losing schools.
