Last Sunday, the maiden edition of the Joy FM Family Pop Quiz Mini-Series took off successfully, to the delight of many, both young and old.
The Mini-Series show which is aimed at engaging smart kids from ages 12 to 15 with interests in English Language, Science, Social Studies and Mathematics, aired on October 9, on Joy 99.7 FM with Edem Knight-Tay as host.
Four intelligent kids made the cut for the maiden edition; Stanley, Janelle, Akua and Karen. All four contestants were required to answer the same number of questions within a particular duration in the various categories. At the end of the fierce contest, Karen and Akua scored 30 points each, while Stanley followed through with 29 points. Janelle came up fourth with 22 points.
The maiden edition of the Joy FM Family Pop Quiz Mini-Series, sponsored by the Ghana Olympiad Academy, proved to be exciting and entertaining as the contestants exhibited their knowledge by answering questions thrown at them in the aforementioned areas during the show. The motivation to put up the best performance stems from the prize at stake; an all-expense paid trip to Singapore in December 2022.
Karen, a final year basic school student “just wants to have fun [in Singapore] before starting senior high school”. The expectations for the trip seemed to cut across for all other contestants, who maintained that they “just want to have fun [in Singapore]”.
Host Edem Knight-Tay explained that the Mini-Series would air every Sunday until November 6, when a winner is finally crowned. “Each Sunday we’re going to have four kids from ages 12 to 15 in the studio. At the end of the day we will select one of them to be a part of an educational and fun trip to Singapore”, she elaborated.
Amongst the thrilling activities for the winner will be an adventurous visit to Disney, a robotics workshop, gala dinner with children from other countries, the Young Achievers Leadership Academy (YALA) Camp 2022 and loads of other fun activities.
The second episode of the Joy FM Family Pop Quiz Mini-Series airs on Sunday, October 16, from 3pm to 4pm on Joy 99.7 FM, with a fresh set of four smart kids, each with high hopes of emerging the winner. Discerning listeners of Joy FM are anticipating yet another sterling performance from all participants in the next episode, in the build-up to the grande finale.
