The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Ashanti Region says the state power wielded by President Akufo-Addo has gotten into his head.
In a press conference on Thursday, the Ashanti Regional Communicator for the party, Abass Nurudeen said this has caused President Akufo-Addo to care less about the plight of Ghanaians.
“Clearly, power has gotten into the head of our President so much such that he doesn’t care a hoot about the plight of the people who gave him the power,” Abass Nurudeen noted.
The NDC’s press conference was in reaction to the four-day working visit in the Ashanti Region by President Akufo-Addo.
The President, during his tour, made some comments which have been deemed as uncharacteristic of him.
President Akufo-Addo said during an interview on Kumasi-based OTEC FM on Monday that he is not threatened by calls for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to be voted out of office in the 2024 election.
His comment was in response to a question posed by host of the programme regarding what he made of threats by the people of Kwabre against the NPP in the 2024 election due to poor road infrastructure in the area.
Reacting to the threats President Akufo-Addo replied, “no problem. I am saying people make those kinds of threats; me they don’t frighten me.”
Such a comment the NDC said is an “insult to the people of Kwabre East.”
The President was also booed by market women, hawkers and artisans on Monday while he was inspecting Phase II of the Kejetia/Central Market Project.
In a video posted on the microblogging platform, TikTok, the traders and passersby were seen in the chorus of boos to express their displeasure with the prevailing economic situation as the President’s convoy advanced.
The NDC believes that such cold reception by the people of Kumasi has “ruffled him (President Akufo-Addo) so much and sent him into throwing tantrums that are very unworthy of the high office of President.”
The party says the disaffection meted out to the President is a reflection of the bad economic policies and the worsening economic situation currently.
