The District Chief Executive of the Okere District, Daniel Kenneth says his district aims to be the cleanest in the Eastern Region and Ghana at large.
This according to him is due to some strategic sustainable environmental plan put together by the assembly.
The District Assembly in its long term plan has anticipated the congestion and influx of people in town with the potential of compromising the sanitation of the District.
In view of this, the Okere District Strategic Sustainable Environmental plan aims to educate communities on sanitation bylaws, inculcate good sanitation practices and train sanitation managers and Environmental Health Officers who are domicile in Okere to maintain best sanitation practices.
In order to execute the last phase of the strategic plan, the District Assembly has fully sponsored 13 indigenes from Okere to pursue a degree at the School of Hygiene in Ho to help enforce sanitation bylaws and compliance.

At a ceremony to announce the beneficiaries, District Chief Executive, Daniel Kenneth explained that the participants went through a rigorous interview process and were selected on merits from 13 major towns within the district.
This includes Adukrom, Abiriw, Dawu, Awukugua, Apirede, Aseseeso, Asenema, Nkyesua, Esi Nkwanta, and Otareso.
He said the Assembly has contracted the beneficiaries to work in the Okere District Assembly after school for 10 years so they can better execute innovative sanitation policies and programs for a clean Okere.
Meanwhile, their tuition, accommodation and other expenses for the two-year degree program have been duly taken care of by the Assembly.
