A civil society group, ‘Justice for Ghana Movement’ (J4G) has requested that the Ghana Police Service relocates its intended meeting with the Group to Freedom Centre at Kokomlemle.
The Police in an earlier letter demanded that Justice for Ghana met with the Regional Police Command at the Greater Accra Regional Office over its intended picketing at the Revolution Square from November, 28 to 30, 2022.
Justice for Ghana in a reply said it cannot meet with the Police due to its inability to afford transportation as a result of the economic hardship.
It is for this same reason, it is asking the Police to relocate the meeting.
“We request that the proposed meeting at the Greater Accra Regional Police Headquarters be relocated to the Freedom Centre, at Kokomlemle, considering the prohibitive cost of transportation and the dire economic hardships we are grappling with which has necessitated the picketing,” the Group said in a letter dated November 25.
The letter added that in any event when the Police fail to secure an injunction against the intended picketing, it forfeits its legal right to suggest relocation of the picketing to another venue as it has earlier requested.
According to the letter signed by a member of the movement, Selorm Dramani Dzramado, “the Ghana Police Service will be usurping the power of the Courts of Ghana if they attempt to stop the picketing at the Revolution Square as notified per a letter.”
This, they explained, is because the Police have not yet secured any injunction against the picketing.
