The President of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo has called on government to supply the health sector with necessary working equipment.

She believes this will augment the recent 30% upward adjustment of the base pay announced on Thursday.

According to her, the inadequacy of logistics at the various health facilities across the country has negatively impacted healthcare delivery.

The expert made this comment on JoyNews on Friday, January 13, 2023.

On January 12, the government, after several negotiations with Organised Labour, increased the base pay for the 2023 financial year by 30%.

The increment takes effect from January 1, 2023.

This follows a meeting with Organised Labour on Thursday, January 12 after ten unsuccessful negotiations between both parties.

However, GRNMA President posited that the increment will have very little impact if the state of devices and gadgets at the facilities remain deplorable.

Mrs Ofori-Ampofo highlighted that these facilities also lack medicines needed to treat patients in the case of emergency.

“Look at the beds that we keep our patients on. If you have to raise them at a certain angle; 90 degrees angle or 30 degrees or put them in a certain position, you have to always do these things manually – lifting and using pillows to adjust. There are beds that can do these all just by the press of a button,” she told host, Bernice Abu-Baidoo Lansah.
