Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party, Kwabena Adjei Agyapong, is urging the Ghana Football Association to concentrate on developing the mainstream football game instead of introducing a five-a-side competition.
The GFA on Tuesday, April 11, launched the maiden edition of the Futsal Premier League at its Secretariat.
Sixteen clubs have been registered to compete in the first edition of the Futsal league with the opening game taking place last weekend.
But speaking to Luv Fm’s Delali Atiase in Kumasi, the aspiring flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party said it is surprising that the GFA will introduce a new competition when the main football game is not at its best.
“I was a bit surprised to hear from the FA and they’re talking about some five-a-side football when our main football is destroyed,” Agyapong said.
“We should rebuild our game, why waste our energy on Futsal, what’s that supposed to be? In my view, football is the mainstream and right now the community’s connection with football has disappeared because a lot of the teams are now individuals. They are owned by individuals with no support base. That’s where we need to focus”.
