Residents of Kumasi trooped to the forecourt of Nhyira FM on May Day to join in the fun of a communal food bazaar organised by the leading Akan radio station in Ashanti region.

Amidst the fun-fair, some lovers of the local dish, fufu, say they were saved the cost of lunch as they were fed for free at the Nhyira FM Fufu Party.

Patrons were treated to fufu with assorted soup, including ‘abunuabunu’ [green soup], light soup, chicken soup, goat soup and palmnut soup, from selected chop bar operators in the Kumasi metropolis.

Access to an earthenware bowl qualified all patrons to join the Fufu Party.
“I was here the last time to eat fufu. For a month now, I have not eaten fufu. That is why I rushed here to have a bowl. I am also an ardent listener of Nhyira FM and wouldn’t mind sponsoring this programme if I’m alive next year,” said Nathaniel.

Another patron, Ama Pinamang added, “I just got here. I have been given a bowl of fufu with goat meat. This food would have cost me about 35 cedis if I bought it outside. Today, my lunch money has been saved.
“I went for a first round of fufu with grasscutter soup. I am now on my second round with chicken soup. Nhyira FM, continue to feed us every year”.

Sponsors of the Nhyira FM Fufu Party say the event exceeded their expectations.

Tasty Tom, Onga, Madam Catherine, Charlie Spices, Faith Homeopathic Clinic, Action Pharmacy and Obuase Bitters were on board as sponsors.

They commended the organizers for a well-coordinated event, especially in the positioning of their stands to attract patrons to their brands.

Regional Events Manager at Promasidor Ghana, William Senti Owusu, wants the event to be organised quarterly.
“The live band performances, and my main man, Asanka Boyooyo, made me enjoy the show. Comparing the fufu parties held in previous years, this edition is the best,” he said.

Events and Activation Executive at Nutri Foods Ghana Limited, Godwin Anthony, says his stand recorded a high turnout of patrons who made enquiries and purchases.
He suggested the inclusion of more artists in subsequent editions to make the event even more exciting one.
