Ampem Darkoa Ladies have been crowned champions of the Malta Guinness Ghana Women's Premier League following their penalty shootout win over Hasaacas Ladies on Friday, May 12.
Success Ameyaa's miss during the shootout meant the Techiman-based club repeated their heroics from last season as they ensured a 5-3 win on penalties having played a one-all game at full time.
The first half saw very little action from both teams as they looked to cancel each other out and play with caution ending goalless.
Doris Boaduwaa opened the scoring for the Sekondi-based side after the recess, heading home Fiduos Yakubu's cross from a corner kick in the 60th minute.
The goal came as part of a goal spell the Hasmal Ladies enjoyed right at the start of the second half of the game.
Yusif Basigi's side looked certain to seal victory within regular time as they controlled the tempo of the game and neutralised the threat of Ampem Darkoa Ladies.
However, a miscalculation by Grace Banwaa and a mistimed clearance from Linda Eshun sae Ophelia Serwaa Amponsah give the Nana Mma a lifeline as she scored the equaliser in the 84th minute of the encounter.
Both teams tried in the last minutes of the game to snatch a late winner but very little came out of their quest as the game proceeded to extra time.
With no goals in extra time, the game was decided on penalties where Ampem Darkoa won with a 5-3 score after Ameyaa's miss.
It's the second successive title for Ampem Darkoa Ladies after last season's success and will have an opportunity to challenge for a spot at next season's CAF Women's Champions League.
