German Ambassador to Ghana, Daniel Krull, expressed his admiration for former Chairperson of the Inter-Ministerial Committee against Illegal Mining (IMCIM), Prof Frimpong Boateng, as a role model in the fight against illegal mining.
He encouraged the youth of Ghana to learn from the remarkable career path of the heart surgeon, who spent many years in Germany before his appointment as Minister of Environment, Science, and Technology.
The German diplomat praised Prof Frimpong Boateng's commitment to addressing climate change and tackling the issue of illegal mining, which continues to plague Ghanaian society.
He shared an anecdote about his interaction with Ghanaian students in Kumasi, where he was asked to recommend a role model for their commitment to addressing climate change and fighting illegal mining. He confidently named the heart surgeon as his top choice.
During an event marking the Green Ghana Day, the Ambassador expressed his pleasure at having Prof Frimpong Boateng in attendance, emphasizing that the professor is an important role model for young Ghanaians.
He commended the professor for his achievements, which were based on merit and his own abilities, and highlighted the significance of his decision to return to Ghana and serve his country.
The Ambassador's invitation to Professor Frimpong Boateng to his official residence in Accra was part of the Green Ghana Day celebration, in which the government of Ghana invited its partners to participate.
The Ambassador's remarks come despite Professor Frimpong Boateng being under investigation following his arrest by the Office of the Special Prosecutor in May of the previous year.
However, the diplomat clarified that the invitation was extended to mark the occasion and involve the "eminent" Ghanaian in the celebration.
