Some residents of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region are calling on the government to resume work on the construction of the Kumasi Airport project.
The second phase of the project, which began in 2018 has been halted due to lack of funds.
Speaking to JoyNews' correspondent, Nana Boakye Yiadom, the residents said they were earnestly looking forward to the fulfillment of the promise to complete the project on time.
One concerned resident demanded answers from the government on the continuous delay of the project.
He said, “The airport is left abandoned, the contractors are not on site. The government should be truthful to us because it’s our taxes."

He also highlighted that completing the Kumasi International Airport will benefit the country, as it will relieve the burden on the Kotoka International Airport in Accra.
Another resident also indicated that during the early stages of the construction of the project, they witnessed rapid work being carried out.
However, he now says “things have slowed down.”
He implored the government to see to it that active work resumes on the project.

The Kumasi Airport project forms part of three major construction works, including the Kejetia Market Redevelopment Project and the 500-bed capacity Mother and Baby Unit at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital which have also stalled.
In 2018, President Akufo-Addo cut sword for work to begin on the construction of the second phase of the Kumasi Airport project.
It was expected to be completed within 24 months. However, in 2023, construction activities stopped, and the project has been left abandoned, although reports suggest it is 70 per cent complete.
Contractors have also left the site, leaving the project site to be covered in weed.
