George Owu, who featured for Ghana at the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), is hopeful that the Black Stars of Ghana can win the next AFCON to be hosted in Ivory Coast next January.
The four-time African champions secured their tenth successive AFCON qualification with a dramatic 2-1 win over the Central African Republic Thursday, September 7, 2023, at the Kumasi Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
The Black stars managed to place top of group E with 12 points, with Angola coming second with 9 points.
The Central African Republic and Madagascar occupied the third and fourth place with 7 and 3 points, respectively.
Despite failing to qualify out of the group stage at the last AFCON, Owu is still optimistic that the Black Stars can end their 42-year trophy drought in Ivory Coast next January.
Speaking to Onua FM he said: “This Ghana team can win the AFCON with the right support and motivation from Ghanaians.”
The draw for the tournament will be held on Thursday, October 12, 2023 in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.
