Black Stars head coach, Chris Hughton, has explained why Inaki Williams is yet to score for the Black Stars since his debut against Brazil in September 2022.
The Athletic Club forward has since played ten times for Ghana, without finding the back of the net.
Speaking on the 29-year-old’s form for the Black Stars ahead of Wednesday dawn’s international friendly against the United States, Hughton said Inaki’s work rate can’t be questioned.
“What we can’t do is we can’t fault the work rate that he puts in. He is a player that is prepared to run behind. We just need to get the formulas right where we are able to provide him with the service and the service can come in two ways,” he said.
“It can come from the wide areas or it can come from runs over the top. And I think over the period of time, we haven’t been able to provide him with that type of service. Some of that is sporadic; we have games where we have had good possession in the middle of the park and look for runners.
“Probably as I said, we need to find the right formulas to create chances for him. And upon until this moment we haven’t been able to do that.”
Inaki Williams, who switched nationality from Spain to Ghana in June 2022 at 28, could have an opportunity to score his first goal for Ghana when the Black Stars take on the US on Wednesday at 12:30 A.M.
