Ecobank Ghana has donated relief items to victims in three communities affected by the recent spilling of the Akosombo and Kpong dams in the Volta Region.
Victims in safe havens in Sokpoe in the South Tongu District, New Bakpa Zorotodzi and Adidome in the Central Tongu Districts received food items, water and medical supplies and clothing. The items were valued at over GH₵200,000.
The Marketing and Cooperate Communications Manager of Ecobank, Dr. Kasser Tee said the bank shared in the pain of the victims who have had their livelihoods affected by the man-made-flood, had their homes destroyed, while they are denied access to good healthcare and education.
He emphasised that Ecobank has always been a friend of the Volta Region and would go the extra mile to restore livelihoods and contribute to ensure that normalcy returns to the affected communities.
He extended an appeal to other corporate organisations to come to the aid of the flood victims, especially in the case of communities that have been entirely swept away by the flood.
“The Chief’s appeal was that they love to be resettled away from the low-lying areas, so this is a bigger call, so I will take this opportunity to call on other corporate organisations to come to the rescue of the victims of the flood”, he said.
The District Coordinating Director of the Central Tongu District Assembly, Gabriel Adzago expressed gratitude on behalf of the victims, to Ecobank for the kind gesture and assured the items would be distributed equitably among the victims who are struggling in these difficult times.
He debunked allegations that donated items do not get to victims, indicating all items received have been given out to cushion the affected persons.
The District Chief Executive of South Tongu, Seth Kwasi Agbi, also applauded the donation made by Ecobank and appealed for more relief items.
