US President Joe Biden’s administration has “lost control” over its policy on Gaza, Trita Parsi of the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft think tank says, largely because it is unwilling to challenge Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government.
“They have objections to many aspects of what Netanyahu’s government is doing. But they are not willing to put real pressure on the Israelis to abide by the conditions” set by Washington, Parsi told Al Jazeera.
“I think that they are increasing the tone a little bit sharper. But I don’t think it’s necessarily because of any clear objections from the Biden administration side itself,” he continued.
Instead, Parsi said it’s “because of the global pressure on the United States, as well as the increasing domestic pressure on the Biden administration, which is going increase even further if the Israelis start bombing Gaza again”.
