JoyNews has been honored as the most impactful news media room in environmental and sanitation promotion at the Ghana Environmental & Sanitation Awards (GESA) 2023.
The award is to recognize the pivotal role the newsroom has played in the quest to achieve a clean and sustainable environment.
One of the numerous environmental and sanitation initiatives of the JoyNews newsroom is the Joy Clean Ghana Campaign which kicked off in September 2019.
The campaign is aimed at helping to enforce waste management and educate the public on how to manage waste to rid our surroundings of filth.
Since its inception, the campaign has chalked several successes. A significant number of people, especially in the Greater Accra Region, have admitted to developing positive behavioral change through the sensitization programme.

Many places that were hitherto engulfed in filth have witnessed a significant improvement in sanitation as many environmental law offenders have been prosecuted at the law courts to serve as deterrents to others.
The success of the campaign in the Greater Accra Region has motivated the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly in the Western Region to partner with JoyNews to replicate the exercise in the metropolis.
This award comes at a time when JoyNews is strengthening its partnership with the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) to intensify efforts to ensure cleanliness as the nation prepares to celebrate the Yuletide.
GESA is a platform dedicated to celebrating the tireless efforts of individuals and entities who have demonstrated exemplary commitment to preserving and improving the environment, as well as ensuring the highest standards of sanitation across the country.
The platform also aims to inspire and encourage others to join hands in the vital mission of safeguarding the country's natural resources and creating a cleaner, healthier Ghana for all while creating synergies toward achieving the set goals in the environmental and sanitation value chain which are guided by the SDG goals 3, 6, 13 14 & 15.
