Newmont Ghana Gold Ltd (Ahafo South Mine) has become the best in the country, according to the 20th edition of the Ghana Club 100 organised by the Ghana Investment Promotion Center.
The mining giant beat 99 other companies.
Financial technology firm, Zeepay, which was the number one company in the 19th edition of the awards came 13th this time around.
Scancom Plc Ghana, operator of MTN Ghana and Amanex Company Limited came 2nd and 3rd respectively.
From the 4th to the 10th positions were GoldFields Ghana (Tarkwa Mine), Newmont Golden Ridge Limited (Akyem Mine), Anglogold Ashanti Limited, Dansworld International Services, Abosso Goldfields Limited, Benso Oil Palm Plantation Limited and FBN Bank Ghana.
This year’s edition was on the theme “Accelerating Economic Growth: Amplifying Ghana’s Global Market Footprint through AFCFTA”. It was aimed at fostering an effective mechanism for assessing Ghanaian companies, while instilling the character and confidence needed by businesses to compete in the global marketplace.
Chief Executive Officer of the GIPC, Yofi Grant said the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) pact provides a golden opportunity for Ghanaian businesses to expand to other African countries.
“For us at GIPC, our work is to complement government efforts by instituting various measures to bolster Ghana’s private sector’s competitiveness on the African continent.”
He stated that the 20th edition of the Ghana Club 100 awards is to celebrate decades of resilience, innovation and excellence showcased by Ghanaian businesses.
The top 100 firms that were recognised came from strategic sectors including agriculture and agribusiness, financial services, ICT, infrastructure, petroleum, mining services, manufacturing, tourism, health, and education.
