The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama has voiced his disappointment over the government's inability to execute plans aimed at turning the Jomoro constituency into a petrochemical hub.
The former President emphasized that this development project was designed to be one of the advantages the local community would gain from oil exploration in the region.
The project, still pending implementation, holds the potential to bring about significant economic transformation in the affected communities.
“It was in our time that the oil exploration started. In our plans, Ellembelle was to be a gas enclave and Jumoro would be converted into a petrol chemical hub. We could not implement it because we were voted out. We expected our brothers to implement the plan, after taking over. I was expecting to see a refinery and fertilizer production here after eight years. I promise you if I am voted back into power, I will fix everything," he said.
The residents also raised concerns about the poor road network in their communities as it affects their daily lives.
Speaking in Jomoro at the Building Ghana tour, the former President indicated that, part of the plan for economic development in the region was to use the profits from gas exploration to finance the construction and repair of roads.
“We made plans to build gas enclave roads in these communities. We were to draw money from gas proceeds to build the roads here. Elembelle has received their portion but Jomoro is yet to have their share. I will ensure that if we come into power, GMPC who is in charge will give you your share”.
