The National Democratic Congress intends to extend industrial development to the Western part of the capital to enhance economic growth.
Flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, has bemoaned the over concentration of industries in the Eastern part of Greater Accra.
“If you look at the country's development, many of the factories and industries were started in Tema by Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. The Eastern part of Accra to Tema and the Free Zones area. Also on your way to Aflao, another industrial estate is being established. But in the Western part, there are few industries, mostly old ones”, he said.
He was speaking at a gathering to end the Phase Two of the NDC's "Building Ghana Tour".
The Phase Two of the "Building Ghana Tour" focused on the Western North, Western and Central Regions.
Through town hall meetings and community engagements, challenges of the public were collated to inform the party's manifesto for election 2024.
At Awutu Bereku Palace, Nai Abokuadze Agyeman Whittey Otabil appealed to the NDC flagbearer to ensure the party's job creation agenda benefits the community if successful in the upcoming election.
“You constructed a beautiful edifice in Kumasi, that's the Kejetia Market. If you get us same at Bodwiase, Kasoa and Bontease we will be glad. Because this area is a food basket for the country. I am also happy about the 24 hour economy but we plead with you that immediately you come to power provide us with about ten factories so we can also benefit. The youth are in need of job opportunities”, he said.
In his response, the flagbearer of the NDC revealed a deliberate policy to create more industrial hubs in parts of the country.
Under the policy, the future NDC government will provide social amenities at a secured location to drive industry.
“We can't concentrate all the factories at one place, we have to expand it for our youth to get employment. I told your MP to start getting a land to be provided with social amenities for industrialization. It will drive the private sector to the area”, he added.
