The recent shooting incident in the Bawku Central constituency of the Upper East Region has been strongly condemned by the Member of Parliament, Mahama Ayariga.
Mr. Ayariga termed the incident as "most unfortunate" and emphasised that such occurrences should not be tolerated in contemporary Ghana.
During an interview with Citi FM on Thursday, January 18, the former Information Minister urged the office of the Ashantihene, Otumfuo, to intervene and mediate in the ongoing conflict.
“It is most unfortunate that we recorded this gun violence, resulting in two deaths and the injury of several people. These developments are regrettable, and I condemn them in no uncertain terms. We continue to call on the office of the Ashantihene, Otumfuo, to mediate.”
In the incident, unidentified gunmen opened fire on a group of people at the community centre on Wednesday, leading to the tragic death of two individuals and injuring four others.
Consequently, residents have reportedly evacuated the area due to concerns for their safety.
This is not the first instance where the Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga, has expressed condemnation for such regrettable incidents.
Bawku has witnessed multiple occurrences of similar violent acts due to the ongoing conflict in various areas within the region.
