The former majority leader of parliament of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called upon his colleagues to lend their support to his successor, Alexander Afenyo-Markin.
Mr. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu stated that their backing would facilitate the effective pursuit of the government's agenda in parliament.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament, he underscored that during his tenure as Majority Leader, he had to collaborate with members from both the minority and majority caucuses of both the New Patriotic Party and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
"Beginning with your good self, the honourable Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, Cletus Avoka, my internal friend, Dr. Benjamin Kunbuor, the honourable Haruna Iddrisu, and now the honourable Ato Forson, in the face of these people, we have developed a very cordial relationship even though we belong to different sides of the political spectrum.
"The working relationship has translated into such a close relationship that sometimes we begin to think that we are hiding something from the rest of parliament, but it is all to encourage the smooth transition of government business and indeed the course of the country in parliament.“
He conveyed his appreciation to all those in leadership positions in Parliament.
Mr. Osei-Kyei-Mensah stated that he had collaborated with four clerks of parliament and expressed satisfaction with his work despite occasional disagreements.
“Mr. Speaker, let me also profoundly thank not only my caucus and indeed the other caucus but the entire officers and members of this house. The other staff, junior and senior, have all played their part to ensure we raise the flag of Ghana. “.
